AIZEN MYO-O ZAZO (SEATED STATUE OF RAGARAJA)

Comments
This statue was created in 1247 by a sculptor of Buddhist images named Zen-en at the request of Saint Eison. Although its size is small, this statue shows the sculptor’s excellent workmanship. State of the preservation is fairly good. A masterpiece among Ragaraja statues made in the Kamakura period. Normally it is kept hidden inside the central altar but is exceptionally open to the public view for a limited period in spring and fall every year.
