KISSHOTEN RYUZO (STANDING STATUE OF SRI-MAHADEVI)

Comments
Kisshoten is a Buddhist image for happiness, fertility and beauty. It is also one of the main images for people to repent their pasts at a repentance ceremony which was held at the seven major temples in Nara. Old Chinese style can be observed on this statue’s figure. The pleated dress pattern of its lower body is particularly beautiful. Made in the early Heian period.
