BISHAMONTEN ZO (STATUE OF VAISRAVANA)

Comments
Bishamonten or Vaisravana in Sanskrit was believed to guard the northeastern gate (Kimon) of the capital. Body frame of this statue is large as it was common in those days in creating statues of guardian gods. Made between the late Heian period and the early Kamakura period. Gentle look of the face, without any arms and armor carried, gives a soft impression.
