JUSANJU SEKIHO TO (THIRTEEN STORIED STONE PAGODA)

Comments
A pagoda is ordinarily used to contain the relics of Buddha. This stone pagoda was made in the Kamakura period by Igyomatsu, a mason who came to Japan from Southern Song in China. It is one of his masterpieces and the largest stone pagoda in Japan. It is considered an excellent model for following thirteen storied stone pagodas. When the repair was carried out on a large scale in 1964, many valuable materials were discovered inside it.
