AMIDA NYORAI RYUZO (STANDING STATUE OF AMITABHA)

Comments
Emperor Shomu dedicated this statue to Hannyaji to pray fervently for protecting the capital from evils and disasters at Kimon, northeastern gate of the capital, where this temple was located. When a large scale repair was carried out at the temple in the Showa period, it was discovered in the Thirteen Storied Stone Pagoda. Further, three Buddhist images, i.e., Dainichi Nyorai (Vairocana), Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokitesvara), and Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha) were also discovered inside this statue.
