Aizu Yaichi is a famous Japanese “waka” poet (1881-1956) and was a Professor Emeritus of Waseda University. His main field of study was the history of Japanese art, particularly the Buddhist art, so he frequently visited Nara. One of his poems is inscribed on this stone monument.
