KYOZO (REPOSITORY FOR KEEPING BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES)

Comments
The Yuan Dynasty edition of complete Buddhist scriptures is stored in this repository, which is one of the still existing scripture repositories built in the Kamakura period. This architecture is unique in its high floored style and simple structure. It is said that Prince Morinaga (also called Prince Moriyoshi) could narrowly survive by keeping himself hidden within a Karabitsu (Six-legged Chinese style chest) in this repository during the Genko War (known as Genko no Hen, a civil war between the Emperor and the Kamakura Shogunate in the early14th century in Japan).
