SAIGOKU SANJUSAN KANNON SEKIBUTSU (THIRTY THREE STONE STATUES OF KANNON IN WESTERN JAPAN)

Comments
These statues were donated to Hannyaji in the Kamakura period by a person named Terajima who was living in Sagara-no-Kori of Yamashiro Province (Soraku County, Kyoto Pref.). He wanted to offer his gratitude for recovery from an illness and also to help physically handicapped persons to make a pilgrimage safely, so he donated a total of 33 stone Buddhist images to Hannyaji, one of the 33 Kannon temples in western Japan.
