CHIGO DAISHI ZO (STATUE OF KOBO DAISHI KUKAI AT THE AGE OF SEVEN)

Comments
This stone statue was made based on a model which Kagoshima Juzo created using Japanese paper called Koya-gami. He was a living national treasure and also a recipient of the Order of Culture of Japan. On 15th June every year, the birthday of Kobo Daishi Kukai, “Aoba festival” is held to celebrate his birthday and to express gratitude for the blessing of Buddha. People celebrate the birthday by pouring Amacha (Hydrangea tea) on this statue of the lovely infant Kobo Daishi.
